Rainbow Playgroup Marks 50 Years with Celebrations

A nursery in York has marked its golden jubilee with a festive celebration complete with cake.

Located at Carr Lane Primary School, Rainbow Playgroup has spent fifty years at the same site, celebrating this milestone by hosting a party for both the children and the staff.

Manager Gemma Gavin commented, “Rainbow has been a cornerstone of the community for half a century, originally starting as a playgroup before evolving into the nursery it is today.”

The event, put together by the nursery staff, included fun activities like musical statues, musical bumps, a piñata, a party lunch, and a special cupcake for each child.

Gemma praised her team for the strong bonds they have forged with both the pupils and their parents, stating, “Families are familiar with us. Once one child attends, the siblings tend to follow. We have even seen the next generation of families come through our doors!”

As reported by York Press, the nursery’s celebration was a heartfelt affair, with both staff and students joining in the festivities. All team members are from the local area, with some, including Gemma, being former attendees of Rainbow themselves.

Rainbow Playgroup serves children aged two to four and currently has 36 children enrolled. All staff members are highly trained, holding at least a level three qualification and certificates in paediatric first aid, as well as being up-to-date with Safeguarding, Food Hygiene, FGM, and Prevent training.
