Wigan Council Apologises to Nursery Owners After Ofsted Referral

Wigan Council has apologised to the owners of a local nursery after referring them to Ofsted without informing them.

The council’s actions, criticised for a lack of transparency, led to an unannounced inspection at the nursery, known as “Setting A.” The Local Government Ombudsman found no malicious intent but acknowledged communication failures and frustrations caused by the council’s oversight.

The council admitted it delayed providing key information and failed to invite the owners to a crucial review meeting. Moving forward, they committed to improving their communication processes.

Despite tensions, the Ombudsman accepted the council’s apology and encouraged a review of its procedures, ensuring better transparency and collaboration with professionals in the future.

“The council acknowledges its failure to communicate effectively, apologising for the oversight and any distress caused.”

While the apology may resolve immediate frustrations, the council must follow through on improving its practices to avoid future issues.
